2 Minute Wave of Silence
By City Staff
Sarnia City Council supports a 2 minute wave of silence at 11:00 a.m. on Remembrance Day to pay tribute to the 116,000 Canadians who gave their lives to defend Canada and for the peacekeeping troops who have given the same sacrifice.
At its October 24, 2016 meeting, Sarnia City Council approved a request from The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 62, to support the wave of silence.
According to Heather Orton, Poppy Chairman, “The plan is to have cars and buses come to a halt, works lay down their tools, students stand by their desk, stock exchanges to fall silent, production lines to stop and electronic broadcasters to observe the silence for the full 2 minutes.”
While City Hall and other City services are closed on November 11th to honour Remembrance Day, staff have been advised of the 2 minute wave of silence and encouraged to participate.
The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 62, and Sarnia City Council invite the citizens of Sarnia-Lambton to join them in this act of remembrance.
