By City Staff
The Canatara Park carriage house reconstruction project is scheduled to begin the week of November 21, 2016. Fencing will be erected around the construction site beginning Monday, November 21, 2016. Demolition is expected to take one week. Construction of the new carriage house is expected to be complete April 2017.
The new carriage house is made possible with funds raised through the partnership between Seaway Kiwanis, CogecoTV and their weekly TVBingo, along with a generous donation from the Judith and Norman Alix Foundation.
“The City of Sarnia, numerous local contractors and businesses, and Lambton College carpentry students have agreed to assist with this exciting project,” explains Donna Kelso, President, Seaway Kiwanis Sarnia.
During the demolition and construction of the carriage house, the Seaway Kiwanis Children’s Animal Farm and Canatara Park will remain open to the Public. The winter hours of operation for the Seaway Kiwanis Animal Farm are 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. The Annual Parks and Recreation Department “Christmas on the Farm” event scheduled for Friday, December 2nd and Saturday December 3rd will also continue as planned.
“The City of Sarnia and the Parks and Recreation Department has had a longstanding, positive working relationship with the Seaway Kiwanis Club and looks forward to working alongside the Club in the re-building of the carriage house,” explains Ryan Chamney, Manager of Recreation and Planning, City of Sarnia.
