Bluewater Power and Skate Sarnia Donate to the Sarnia Arena Revitalization Fundraiser

By City Staff

The City of Sarnia is pleased to announce two generous donations kicking off the $491,667 Sarnia Arena Revitalization Fundraiser.

A Bluewater Power Legacy donation of $87,000 will be put toward the LED lighting component of the Sarnia Arena Revitalization project.

Local skating club, Skate Sarnia has committed $10,000 to the project. Celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2017/2018, Skate Sarnia has been skating out of the Sarnia Arena since it opened in 1948.

Greg Burr, Lead, Sarnia Arena Revitalization Fundraising Campaign explains, “We are thrilled to accept these incredible donations. Remarkably, we are able to start the campaign with $97,000 towards our goal, and we hope the Bluewater Power and Skate Sarnia donations inspire other organizations and residents to provide support.”

The Sarnia Arena fundraiser will revitalize the historical elements of the facility, exceed AODA standards, improve energy efficiency, repair the façade and exterior, improve the lobby and concession, and upgrade washrooms and change rooms to ensure barrier free access. Initial design graphics are attached.

Donations are gratefully accepted online at www.sarniacommunityfoundation.ca, online at www.sarnia.ca, or in person at Sarnia City Hall. Organizations wishing to discuss corporate donations are invited to contact Greg Burr directly.

Federal funding approved for this project is $491,667 or 33.3% of the project. Additional funds of $491,667 will be raised through community fundraising, and $491,667 from the 2017 Council approved Parks and Recreation Capital envelope.
