Greenspace Damage at Centennial Park

By City Staff

Sometime after 3:00 a.m. this morning, a vehicle entered off of Harbour Road and proceeded into Centennial Park causing extensive, willful greenspace damage.

“Damage is significant. Large areas where new grass has begun to grow will now have to be reseeded,” explains Rob Harwood.

This damage comes prior to the opening of the Sarnia Kinsmen Ribfest at Centennial Park. City staff are working with Ribfest organizers to mitigate the damage’s effects on the event. Damage estimates are currently being prepared.

A plan is being developed to repair the damage more permanently, after events this weekend are complete.

The City has filed a report with Sarnia Police Service and thanks Sarnia Police for their assistance in this matter. Anyone with information about this willful destruction of property is asked to call Sarnia Police Service or Crime Stoppers. Residents are reminded to remain vigilant in the protection of all our valued community spaces.
