Solar Eclipse - Recreation Programming Update

By City Staff

On Monday August 21, 2017, Sarnia will experience a partial solar eclipse from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  During this partial eclipse, more than three-quarters of the sun becomes blocked by the moon. Although this is an exciting event, partial eclipses are not safe to look at and can result in eye damage.

The City of Sarnia is making the following adjustments to our scheduled programs Monday afternoon:

  • Camp Saredaca Day Camp Programming will continue, however children will be indoors from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
  • Newton Park Program will be CANCELLED for the afternoon, so all staff and children will be done as of 12:00 p.m.
  • Cox Youth Centre (Tecumseh Pool) will be CLOSED from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., which will cancel open swim from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. lessons.
