Howard Watson Nature Trail - Open House
By City Staff
The Howard Watson Nature Trail will have an Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Sunday, September 18 to celebrate 2016 trail improvements.
The Bluewater Trails Committee invites all residents, trail users, cyclists, running/walking groups, naturalist groups, and Pokémon Go players to attend the Howard Watson Nature Trail Open House.
Two kiosks will be located on the trail: one at Michigan, and one at Modeland, each staffed by Bluewater Trails Committee members.
The Bluewater Trails Committee has widened 15 kilometers of the trail, installed additional benches, and installed a gateway at Michigan Avenue.
Generous local donations have been leveraged by the Bluewater Trails Committee to apply for fund matching grants from Provincial and Federal Governments.
Donations from local industry, 2015 and 2016 annual committee stipend from the City, Federal Government’s 150th Anniversary Infrastructure Grant, and a CN grant has enabled over $250,000 in improvements to the Howard Watson Nature Trail in 2016.
An accessible city trail is a necessity for the Bluewater Trails Committee. A grant from the Sarnia Community Foundation has provided funding for several benches. The Committee’s goal is to have at least one bench every 500 metres to allow use by all trail users.
