About the City

About the City Section Sarnia Bay Photo Credit George Rosema and Tourism Sarnia Lambton

Sarnia is a medium sized City with a "small town attitude" located on the southern shores of Lake Huron about 1 hour north of Detroit, Michigan and 1 hour west of London, Ontario. Sarnia enjoys one of the warmest climates in Canada - being adjacent to Lake Huron the climate is moderated year-round with summer temperatures somewhat cooler than other parts of Southwestern Ontario, and winters typically short and mild with minimal snowfall.

The City is characterized by a diverse economic base, affordable residential neighbourhoods, an accessible waterfront extending along the shores of Lake Huron and the banks of the St. Clair River and an extensive system of parks, sportsfields, walking trails, arenas and the Royal Bank Centre (RBC) a major spectator sports and entertainment facility, home of the Sarnia Sting. Cultural opportunities in the City abound with libraries, art galleries, theatres, and special events that are offered throughout the year.

We invite you to investigate the City and discover opportunities for an excellent quality of living and the potential of a lifestyle rich with opportunities for education, employment, retirement and recreation.
