POLITICAL AND COMMUNITY RECORD:
Mayor Bradley was first elected an Alderman in the City of Sarnia in November, 1985. Mayor Bradley was elected Mayor in December, 1988. On January 1st, 1991 Mayor Bradley became the first Mayor of the amalgamated City of Sarnia-Clearwater and the first Mayor of Sarnia to serve on Lambton County Council in over seven decades. In November, 1994 Mayor Bradley was re-elected for a third term. In November, 1997 Mayor Bradley was re-elected for a fourth term. On June 27th, 2000 Mayor Bradley became the longest serving Mayor in Sarnia. In November, 2000 Mayor Bradley was re-elected for a fifth term. In November 2003 Mayor Bradley was re-elected for a sixth term. In November, 2006 Mayor Bradley was re-elected for a seventh term with 57% of the vote.
Mayor Bradley is Chairman of the Board of the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership and three times Past Chair of the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Development Commission; member of Lambton County Council; Chairman of the Board of Directors of The University of Western Ontario Research Park, Sarnia-Lambton Campus; Chairman of the Board of Directors, Bioindustrial Innovation Centre; Chairman of the Sarnia Police Services Board; past Governor of Lambton College; past member of the Library and Planning Boards; organizer and Chairperson of Detox-Homeless Shelter Committee; past member of Community Awareness Emergency Response Board; member of the Emergency Primary Control Group. Started and led the Border City Mayors Group who obtained $600 million for border improvements in 2003. Chaired the Southwestern Ontario Mayors Committee to make recommendations to the Federal Government on local and national infrastructure needs; one of three Mayors who negotiated the 5% share from gaming revenues for cities; member of Mayors Automotive Alliance; Great Lakes Mayors and Southwestern Ontario Mayors Group; past Vice-President of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). Served as Chairman for two terms for the Large Urban Cities of Ontario. Chaired AMO’s Environmental Committee. Headed the national campaign to stop VIA rail cuts and to seek relief from cross border shopping for local businesses. Mayor Bradley is an honorary member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62; the War Veterans & Friends Club, Sarnia/Lambton; the Dante Club of Sarnia; the Sarnia Legionnaires' Hockey Team; the Sarnia Rotary Club and the Sarnia Yacht Club. He has been awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and medals from the Royal Canadian Legion and the Polish Combatants Association for his support and community service. In 2008 he was awarded the First Annual Kiwanis of the Seaway President's Award for "outstanding leadership & dedication to the community of the City of Sarnia." In 2009 Rotary Club of Sarnia awarded Mayor Bradley the Paul Harris Fellowship "for demonstrating in your life and vocation a commitment to helping persons in need here and around the world."
Prior to his election as Mayor, Mayor Bradley served as the Executive Assistant to the late Honourable Justice Bud Cullen, M.P., P.C., Q.C., Member of Parliament for Sarnia-Lambton (1980 to 1985).
Mayor Bradley has appeared on many Parliamentary Committees on behalf of the municipal sector and has appeared on “Prime Time News with Peter Mansbridge”; "NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw”; “The Shirley Show”; "CBC Radio Noon”; “Focus Ontario”; and on “Prime Time News Town Hall Series with The Right Honourable Jean Chretien, former Prime Minister of Canada.” He was a regular on the National CBC Radio Show "The Point." Mayor Bradley is a regular panelist on Ontario Mornings Mayors Panel. Mayor Bradley also appeared in the Academy Award-winning documentary, “Bowling for Columbine”. Mayor Bradley writes a twice-monthly column for Sarnia & Lambton County This Week which is a mixture of humour and politics called "Open Mike." Mayor Bradley, a long time Bruce Springsteen fan, was a contributor to the Springsteen fan book "For You" , edited by Lawrence Kirsch, published in 2007 and he also contributed to Mr. Kirsch's second Springsteen book "The Light in Darkness" published in 2009.
